WHY MILLINOCKET AND STEARNS HIGH SCHOOL?
Millinocket and Stearns High School is an outstanding choice for any student wanting to experience life in America while working toward the goal of attending a college or university in the United States. Many students and parents know that a high school education in the United States will give them a competitive edge in the American college and university admissions process, and Stearns High School in Millinocket, Maine offers this opportunity. Located 5 hours north of Boston, Massachusetts, and 1 hour north of Bangor, Maine, Millinocket is known as “the town that paper made”. It is located at the foot of Mount Katahdin, Maine’s highest peak, and its natural beauty and safe environment makes it a prime location to live and be educated. We have clean air, a safe community, and a location that allows either a small town experience or access to cities to give a diverse experience. The high school curriculum affords each student the opportunity to be educated through a variety of courses. Class size is small and students get individualized attention. The English department offers students what they need to read, write, speak, and listen effectively. Our Science department offers several independent study courses in advanced biology and zoology. We also offer several Advanced Placement (AP) courses. In addition, the Math Team affords students the opportunity to compete regularly at math meets. Our students can investigate introductory courses in Psychology, Sociology, and Current Events that often assists them in preparing for college-level courses. We also offer several duel enrollment courses with colleges that count towards college degrees. This community has supported, and continues to support, its schools and activities. The schools have a rich history in Millinocket and school pride is evident all around. All year round most residents can be found at a Stearns' sporting event supporting our students. Not to be outdone, the Performing Arts Department offers outstanding theater productions, choral and band concerts on all grade levels. Our state-of-the-art auditorium is the envy of many schools in the state. Stearns High School is the center of our community, and boasts of a large, well maintained campus. A mark of a good school is often found in the aspirations of its students and their rate of success. Our graduates are prepared for a college or university, and they aspire to degrees in education, medicine, engineering, social sciences, law, and technical trades. Our graduates attend colleges and universities throughout the U.S. and abroad. Stearns prepares them for the next step, and the faculty and staff do it in such a way that the student knows he/she is a member of a very caring community. What student doesn’t want that individual type of attention? Stearns High School and its students occupy an important place in this community and this community an important place at Stearns High School. We offer not just a well-rounded educational experience, including sports, clubs, performing arts, outdoor education, which is important to American colleges and universities, but also provides the chance to be part of a true American town. Millinocket and Stearns High School would be a great place to live, learn, and grow for any student. |
