On November 25th, the first and second graders enjoyed a Thanksgiving feast. This was a a cumulative activity to learning about the first Thanksgiving and being thankful.

On Tuesday, November 26th the fourth and fifth graders celebrated National Cranberry Day. Groups of students rotated through four activities. One involved recording observations while tasing various cranberry food. A second one was playing a trivia game with questions about cranberries in the following categories: math, vocabulary, science, and social studies. A third activity was making wreaths with the cranberries. The fourth activity was a dancing cranberry experiment. If you know a fourth or fifth grader, ask them about these activities and what they learned from the experiment.

The fourth and fifth grade students and staff members would like to thank those who made contributions to their fund raising efforts so they could view the movie Lost on a Mountain in Maine at the Temple Theater in Houlton. Thank you to Terry Dupont for donating a walking stick and antique snowshoes for a raffle, donations from Katahdin Federal Credit Union, Home Grown Fuels, Katahdin Forest Management, and many others who made individual donations of money. Houlton Junior/Senior High School generously provided the staff and students a place to eat their lunches that were provided by the Granite Street cafeteria. Jason Howes, owner of the Temple Theater, was a generous host. Everyone enjoyed popcorn, a drink, and a wonderful movie experience.

Come out and support the Unified Performing Arts this weekend.

Dear Families and Staff,
At a recent wellness team meeting, we discussed ways in which our schools can promote healthy habits for staff and students. We also know we need to consider that many students and staff members have various medical conditions requiring dietary considerations and restrictions. With these things in mind, we are asking for everyone’s help with providing either nonfood items or healthy food choices at school celebrations (classroom, holidays, birthdays, etc.). Healthy food options are:
store-bought and pre-packaged
nut-free
healthy food options (fruit, vegetables, crackers, cheese, pretzels, goldfish, water bottles, juice, etc.)
Thank you for your support as we move forward in building healthy habits for everyone.

A Final Reminder for grades 6-12 to please turn in your student led conference forms to the office. If you do not email or turn one in by Monday November 18th, your child will automatically be assigned a time to attend. This is a requirement for all students to attend! The easiest way to contact us is to email us at awelch@millioncketschools.org or tammy@millinocketschools.org. Thank you!
