Dear Parents and Guardians,
The Millinocket School Department has been working on our updated Standard Response Protocol (SRP). The plan includes a number of protocols and drills that we must practice, with the hope that we never need to use them. The drills include our yearly fire drills as well as other measures, such as Holds and Lockdowns, that secure our buildings and classrooms.
The main objective is to be prepared for a number of situations that could arise. We will practice these protocols on a regular basis so that our staff and students are familiar with what to do in an emergency.
In the event of an actual emergency, you will be notified on our Swift System, through text or call. Please keep our schools updated with any changes in your contact information so you will be sure to receive notifications from us. The Millinocket School Department prioritizes safety and preparedness, because your children' s safety is of the utmost importance.
Thank you,
Jo-Anna Merry, Granite Street School Principal
Beth Peavey, Stearns Junior Senior High School Principal
Frank Porfido, Student Resource Officer

Our winter concerts will be on December 16th for grades K-3 and December 17th for grades 4-5 at 12:30 in the Walker Auditorium at 12:30. We will have a rain/snow day for the concerts on December 18th in the event we have a snow day on the 16th or 17th. Please read the attached letter from Mr. McEwen for more details.

We have been working hard to improve our student attendance at Granite Street. In an effort to support this, we have created an attendance pledge for parents and students to sign and return to school. Thank you, families, for supporting us in this effort.

We had Mr. Jared Robbins visit the fourth graders to talk about being in the Air Force. He shared pictures of the places he has been. This included Qatar where people had pet hawks as a sign of prosperity. His favorite place to go is Japan because he enjoys the customs and food.
At the end we had a push-up challenge to see if the students could do 59 pushups which is what he had to do to pass his fitness test. A few students tried really hard but Madelyn, pictured with Mr. Robbins, was able to do it.
Mr. Robbins said his favorite part about Veteran’s Day is being able to meet other Vets out at restaurants.

Stearns Junior High Basketball Schedule

Mr. Raymond visited the fourth graders to discuss his military career and what it means to be a veteran. He talked about his 20 years of service in the Air Force, shared pictures of his experiences, and showed students the badges he earned. He told the students that his favorite thing about Veteran’s day is the free food he gets in restaurants on Veteran's Day! He also talked about how Mr. Jared, the district's IT person, was one of his students and serves part time in the military. He's excited to hear what they learn from Mr. Jared when he visits on Wednesday.

The 4th and 5th grade chorus from Granite Street participated in the Veteran's Day celebration at Stearns. Some of our students also made cards to give the veterans who attended the ceremony.

In honor of Veteran's Day, there will no school on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.

Congratulation's to all our Honor Roll Students for Quarter 1

Help us celebrate this week.

Our food drive campaign for November will be soup. We appreciate any donations that can be made to help our families.

Fourth grade is learning about senses and descriptive writing. As a fun way to work on these skills, we had a day of Mad Science fun! Two mad scientist came into the classroom and asked the students to complete some tasks! They made them walk through worms (cooked spaghetti) and touch some mystery foods (pasta, jello, and peeled grapes!) After lunch they played guess the sound, and had to use their super hearing to guess the sounds. They also did some taste testing! They tasted different kinds of chips and 2 flavors of Koolaid! The students had a fun day thinking about the senses and loved being all together as a grade to do the activities!

Thank you to everyone who donated pasta and sauces for our food drive. The month of November, we will be collecting soups.
