Granite Street School has formed a playground committee with the goal of raising money to replace our current playground equipment . We have started raising money through donations from community members and businesses. We are looking into grant and fund raising opportunities. Anyone one is interested in supporting this effort can reach out to Shelley Farrington at sfarrington@millinocketschools.org.

The Millinocket Literary Club has partnered with the librarian and art teacher at Granite Street School for numerous years.
A majority of the themes are connect to our local area/community & Maine so the students can make real life connections outside of the classroom with the subjects that have included owls, Baxter State Park, loons, Mt. Katahdin, bats, birds of Maine, and Appalachian Trail.
Each year the students learn about the topic during library lessons with books donated by the club, and students create art projects inspired by the subject using a variety of art styes & media depending upon the topic and differentiate based on grade levels & abilities for a contest that span Pre K -5. The book illustration contest is a cumulating project where students create a book illustration after learning about the subject of the theme through reading books during library time. The Millinocket Literary Club evaluates the submissions and the winners are recognized at an end of year assembly.
This year, the theme is the Millinocket Marathon. The books provided to the library are: Ready, Set, Run!: The Amazing New York City Marathon, Running Across America: A True Story of Dreams, Determinations, and Heading Home, Her Fearless Run: Kathrine Switzer's Historic Boston Marathon, and Dream Big: A True Story of Courage and Determination.
