Millinocket School Nutrition Program
It is our mission to make a significant contribution to the general well being, mental and physical capacity, and learning ability of each student and afford them the opportunity to fully participate in the education process. This will be achieved by providing students with wholesome, nutritious, and appetizing meals, served in a courteous manner, in a clean and pleasant dining environment.
This mission will be pursued in the most efficient and cost effective means possible, and according to State and National regulatory and policy guidelines.
Millinocket School Meals Meet Tough New Nutrition Standards
Granite Street and Stearns Junior-Senior High Schools will be serving school meals that meet tough new federal nutrition standards, ensuring that meals are healthy, well-balanced and provide students all the nutrition they need to succeed at school.
School meals offer students milk, fruits and vegetables, proteins and grains, and they must meet strict limits for saturated fat and portion size. School lunches will meet additional standards requiring:
· Age-appropriate calorie limits
· Larger servings of vegetables and fruits (students must take at least one serving of produce)
· A wide variety of vegetables, including dark green and red/orange vegetables and legumes
· Fat-free or 1% milk
· More whole grains
· And less sodium
We’re always working to offer Millinocket students healthier and tastier choices. In addition to meeting the nutrition standards, we also feature many locally grown foods.
School meals are a great value and a huge convenience for busy families. To view your child’s account transactions and make payments visit www.myschoolbucks.com.
